In the next few chapters , we will examine the role of plants in magic with a view toward seeing them as spiritual entities with their own particular place in the cosmos, with a unique role in our practice as magicians, healers, and gardeners. Cunning farmers are plant people, a green thumb is as necessary to this path as a knowledge of the arcane secrets found in ancient books of sorcery and occult science. The plant world is first and foremost an intermediary between the human and the rest of nature, we use plants for food, clothing, medicine and for the beauty of their presence. But they can also open our eyes to the world of the spirit, revealing the living, breathing, energetic heart of the cosmos, and helping us to find our place in it. So to begin our discussion on plant magic, and to give it some personal context, I would like to discuss the role that entheogenic plants have played in my life and journey, as well as some background in history, mythology, and lore.
